Do other people ask animals if they can pet them? Like I will always just offer my hand out to them and they can sniff it, ignore it, or rub against it asking for pets and I will respect whatever choice they choose. I feel like introducing consent in this way into our relationships with other animals could really be so beneficial. What do you all think of this?
This is good for everyone to do but it’s also very important to teach kids to do this too. I’ve been getting my 3 yr old brother to do this with cats and they’ve gone from not wanting anything to do with this crazy unpredictable kid to being comfortable with him and actually rubbing up against him when he holds out his hand.
I really love this and wish more people would make it a habit. Shoot, I’ve had my gliders for a few years now and I still hold out my hand and let them come to me. Although animals like dogs and cats are more common and fairly friendly, all animals are cautious of strangers so it’s important to show that you are kind and won’t harm them. Then once they trust you they’re all big lovebugs
