I am fairly sure there are other explanatory factors for a dropping life expectancy, such as skyrocketing obesity rates and no one exercising enough. There’s not much evidence that increases in the quantity of working hours is linked to a dropping life expectancy.
the entirety of apple products is just an example of how we’ll never be able to stop capitalism because if it goes any further we’ll just accept it. like there is no reasonable explanation to the fact that people will pay 30 dollars for something that cost 50 cents to make other than that we are complacent in our own societal demise
“we slow phones down on purpose” “we took out the headphone jack so now you have to pay for adapters” “we literally took out the USB DRIVE. on a LAPTOP. and are charging 40 bucks for a mini usb cable that is functionally useless” “oh we also pay our workers 10% of a fucking living wage”
people: ok cool as long as the message bubble is blue
Friendly reminder that the UN estimates it would take 30 billion dollars a year to end world hunger, which is approximately 5 percent of the annual US military budget. (~600 billion). Fuck the USA and fuck the military.
Also it would cost 20 billion to end homelessness in the USA. Combining this together with ending world hunger would cost a bit over 8% of the US military budget, which is still not making a huge dent in this ludicrous accumulation of money.
there’s a big difference between “food waste” as in “farmers destroy tons of food to avoid exceeding quotas” or “supermarkets throw away this much edible food because it doesn’t sell”
and “food waste” as in “it is not actually within the capacity of humans to perfectly predict and track household food consumption, so a certain amount of food per household inevitably goes bad and has to be thrown out every year”
the idea that food waste is the product of thoughtless consumers rather than corporate greed is really insidious
Apple has finally admitted they throttle older iPhones with iOS updates when they release a new model. As the battery degrades over time it’s no longer capable of providing as much power as the CPU needs to draw at peak performance and this can cause unexpected shutdowns so they’ve just been quietly slowing down their phones without disclosing it until now. Probably to encourage you to just buy a new phone for $1000 instead of having the battery replaced for $80.
Should also be noted if you do it yourself Apple will refuse to make any future repairs on your phone bc it affects the warranty, so if you fuck it up youre on your own
